Faculty: Kristen A. Zarfos, MD, FACS
As a mammography technologist, you are often the first and sometimes the only person patients feel comfortable turning to when they have questions about their breast biopsy. This course is designed to empower you with the knowledge and confidence to support your patients through one of the most uncertain times in their care journey.
Led by breast surgeon and patient advocate Dr. Kristen Zarfos, this course explores what happens after a needle biopsy. You’ll gain insight into how results are delivered, what different pathology outcomes mean, and what typical follow-up care looks like. We'll also discuss the physical and emotional experiences many patients face post-biopsy, including breast changes you may be asked about. For patients diagnosed with malignancy, the course covers next steps in treatment, the role of the pathology report in guiding care, and the importance of clear, compassionate communication across the care team.
By the end of this course, you’ll have a deeper understanding of the full patient journey and the critical role you play in helping patients navigate it with clarity, empathy, and confidence.
Very informative and interesting. One of the best presentations I have seen! Simple and easy to understand info about a very complicated disease.

It’s valuable to hear things from the perspective of a breast surgeon. I don’t feel we get to see that side of things in our position so I enjoyed this one. Thank you!

As a biopsy and lumpectomy patient myself, the observations and recommendations from Dr. Zarfos was spot on!
